Family Finds Kitten with Umbilical Cord Still Attached in Their Yard

A few days before Easter a couple of years ago, we heard a pitiful noise in our backyard. My aunt went to check and found this tiny little kitten laying there with his umbilical cord still attached. We had a problem with feral cats in our neighborhood, and we couldn’t find a mom or any more kittens. When it was obvious his mom wasn’t going to come back, we brought him in and got him warm.

We’ve bottle fed kittens (and puppies) before; this guy was so young, we had to use a dropper. But, we made a little bed up in a laundry basket, gave him a little stuffed animal that made heartbeat sounds and fed him every hour. My mom and I took turns feeding him, cleaning his umbilical cord, and making sure he didn’t “go” in his bed (we wiped him with warm water to simulate the mama cat and got him to go after he ate).

During this process, we fell in love with him, and we named him Finn and proceeded to spoil our little boy. He became the cock of the walk and owns our house. Sometimes he sits on my aunt, and she has to carry him around because he’s a baby and wants to be held.

Finn is a member of the family now. He sleeps on us and steals anything of ours he thinks he can get away with. We told my sons that he was a present from the Easter Bunny, and that’s what he’s been, our furry little Easter present, the best one I think we’ve ever gotten.
