She spent the first five years of her life chained to a tree and was severely neglected. Her cruel owner bred her repeatedly and ignored her painful eye conditions.
Maddie was finally rescued by Alyssa, who is being called her “angel”, and brought to Helping Paws Animal Rescue. The years of neglect had taken a toll on her body, and she needed multiple procedures to repair the damage.
The rescue shared that both of her eyes were “grossly infected” and suffering from painful conditions called cherry eye and bilateral entropion, which causes the eyelashes curl inward constantly irritating the eyes.

Maddie also had a cleft palate causing her to regurgitate while drinking and a luxating patella causing her to limp.
Even though she has suffered immensely, she remains a sweet and loving dog. She loves to give hugs and enjoys playing with dogs of all sizes.

This gentle giant underwent multiple operations to heal and is experiencing love for the first time in her life. Your donations helped ensure she had nutritious food to heal and allowed the rescue to spend the saved funds on her medical care.

“With the help of the GOODS program we were able to provide her with all of the medical, nutritional and socialization that she so needed,” states the rescue.
Maddie’s story has a happy ending. She has found a family who loves her unconditionally and she is finally living her best life.
