Dog Struggling to Survive on War-Torn Streets Now Goes for Walks with Family in Paris

Thousands of stray dogs roam the war-torn streets of Ukraine taking shelter in destroyed buildings while searching for scraps of food among the rubble.

Rescuers like Krystina with Under the Sun Shelter do their best to help these poor dogs get the care they need. During a rescue mission which involved vaccinating stray dogs using a blow dart to tranquilize them, she met a frightened dog who she named Oscar.

She told us, “He was wild, distrustful, and always ready to defend himself — letting no one get close, biting out of fear.”

Oscar was vaccinated and brought back to the shelter for a second chance. Slowly he started to trust humans who showed him only kindness and love. The small act of tenderness didn’t go unnoticed and he eventually let his sweet personality shine.

He was placed up for adoption and a Ukrainian family living in Paris reached out to learn more. They decided to add him to their family and he made the journey to France alongside Krystina.

Oscar is living his best life in Paris going for walks near Notre-Dame and through the gardens of Versailles. His rescuers shared, “But his greatest happiness isn’t the famous landmarks — it’s his very own couch with soft pillows, cuddles, and love. Now Oscar is a true family pet who has found his place in the world. We are endlessly grateful to the family who gave him a second life.”
