In the early morning hours of December 2, 49 shelter dogs and 24 cats were loaded on a plane in Louisiana to fly to freedom in Wisconsin. They arrived to snowy and cold weather but were given a warm, friendly welcome by staff and volunteers.

Homeless animals like Annie, Blake, and Gator are getting the second chance they deserve to find a loving home. They hope to spend the holidays with a new family and experience the joy of the season.

Annie

The young terrier mix had a rough start to life but has left her painful past behind her. Her caretakers shared, “Annie has been through more than most dogs her age, yet she meets every day with a gentle spirit and a hopeful heart. After being injured in a bus accident while getting x-rays it was also discovered she had a bullet still in her from an older injury, she has shown the kind of resilience we recognize in so many animals who simply want the chance to feel safe and loved again.”

She continues to heal and has turned into an affectionate pup who loves to give kisses. She is sure to find someone to love soon at Humane Society of Jefferson County.

Blake

Blake is all the entertainment you need. This kitten will melt your heart and make you laugh with her crazy antics. Her sending shelter told us, “Blake may be small, but her personality is anything but. She’s a cuddly kitten who brings a mix of warmth and spark to every moment. One minute she’s curled up in your hands, and the next she’s off exploring with the kind of spunky confidence that makes her fun to be around. She has a naturally playful streak and a good sense of humor about the world—quick with pounces, curious looks, and the kind of antics that make you smile.”

Gator

Gator, don’t let his name fool you, is a total sweetheart who lives life to the fullest. He arrived with a shattered leg, and the only option was to amputate. He is adjusting well to life on three legs and love to run and play. He is ready for his next adventure and just needs to find his life partner.

He experienced snow for the first time as he arrived at Washington County Humane Society. See his reaction below.
