Central Texas animal shelters have been tirelessly working for weeks to care for the influx of displaced and lost animals and reunite them with their families following the catastrophic flooding on July 4th.
While numerous pets have returned to their families, several are still waiting to be claimed. Orphaned pets are also being cared for by loving volunteers and fosters until they can find loving homes.
Kerrville Pets Alive has been helping with search and rescue efforts as well as caring for lost and displaced pets. They shared, “Through rescue, recovery, adoption, reunification, medical care, transport and end of life services, we have impacted the lives of approximately 350 cats and dogs in 19 days.”
Their work is far from over.
Cats and dogs who miraculously survived the flooding and weeks on their own are arriving emaciated and in need of help, like Shade.
The ten-year-old cat arrived in dire condition suffering from pneumonia and severe fungal infection. She is fighting for her life.
A severely underweight pup was discovered hiding in a devastated area near the river and brought to a local veterinary hospital for care. Kerrville Pets Alive shared, “Animals are still showing up. This young girl was found today near a brush pile at a place called Monkey Island in Center Point, Tx. This spot is a popular tourist attraction where the Guadalupe River crosses River Road. This area was heavily damaged during the recent flooding and blocked off to through traffic.”
Austin Pets Alive shared a heartbreaking story about a dog named Richard who lost his home and owners in the flood. He arrived injured but is getting the care and loves he needs to heal.
Your donations have helped feed and care for lost and displaced animals and provided vital supplies for people displaced by the floods. However, more help is needed.

It will take months for people and pets to rebuild and recover. With your continued support, Greater Good Charities will provide pet food and supplies to shelters in need, including those in other cities who took in shelter pets to make room for displaced pets.
