A frail, tired dog who found himself homeless is now strong, rejuvenated, and waiting for his forever home, thanks to you.
Nickel was severely emaciated and in need of urgent care when he was brought into Walton County Animal Services. The shelter says his weakened frame and exhaustion gave hints as to how tough life had been for the pup, but staff provided care and got him into a foster home as quickly as they could to make sure his future was better.
The rescue says, “His foster family provided the nourishment, love, and stability he needed to regain his strength, and slowly, he transformed into the vibrant, affectionate dog he was meant to be.”
However, it turned out life’s struggles weren’t done with Nickel. While he was getting better, he was diagnosed with heartworm, which lessened his chances of adoption due to costly treatment. Fortunately, thanks to your clicks, trivia participation, shopping for a cause, and direct donations, Walton County Animal Services had the funds needed to cover his care because they’d saved money on vaccines, after receiving them through our partner Greater Good Charities’ GOODS program.
SEND CARE PACKAGES TO SHELTER DOGS
The GOODS program provides relief to shelters in a variety of ways, and one involves sending care packages with necessities like food, beds, and vaccines to shelter dogs. This frees up room in the budget for vet care.
The shelter says, “This financial relief ensures that [Nickel’s] future adopter can focus on providing him a loving home without the added burden of expensive medical care. Because of this support, Nickel now has a fighting chance at finding a permanent home. His journey is a testament to how community partnerships and compassionate individuals can make a life-changing difference in the lives of animals in need.”
