Volunteers from near and far continue to gather each morning in central Texas to search for survivors after a devastating flash flooding over the Fourth of July weekend.
There are still over 160 missing people and countless animals.
Search and rescue teams – including trained dogs-, first responders, and volunteers from across Texas and other states are out day and night along the Guadalupe River in search of those still missing.
The teams search every tree, flooded vehicle, and pile of debris for survivors and victims.
The search efforts are taking a toll on rescuers physically and mentally as they enter the fifth day.
Cadaver dogs and search teams are scouring the area for victims as well. Alamo Area Search and Rescue is on the ground helping along with their cadaver dogs.
Many more arrived to help like dozens of people on horseback to navigate areas hard for people on foot.
Austin Police Mounted Patrol arrived with their horses to help in the search and wrote, “Our horses and officers did great navigating the rough terrain, slippery river banks, downed fencing and scattered debris. We are so grateful for the assistance of our equine partners.”
More horses arrived with Hoofbeats for Heroes at Kerrville Pets Alive to join in on the search efforts for both people and animals.
Human and pet victims are also being rescued to return to their families to give them closure. There has been so much loss, but people are not giving up hope.
Kerrville Pets Alive has shared happy reunions which is a much-needed bright light amid so much death and destruction. They wrote, “We all need some happy tails right now. This happened today. We have been able to reunite many pets with their owners following the flood.”
A search and rescue form can be found on their website to find a lost pet or report one you found. They hope to reunite all the pets with their families soon.
