Animal shelters are overcrowded and overwhelmed, especially in southern states. Sadly, many are at risk of euthanasia due to lack of space, resources, and adopters.
A sweet husky named Max was in danger when he was brought in as a stray to a holding pen in Texas. He was microchipped so his owner was contacted. However, they said they no longer wanted him.
His best chance at survival was now for a rescue to take him in. Animal Lives Matter of East Texas and Husky Halfway House (H3) worked together to save him.
H3 was heartbroken to hear that Max’s former owners left him at the holding pen knowing that could mean euthanasia. They posted, “How could someone look at this face and leave him behind on purpose?! Thankfully, that wasn’t the end of Max.”
Max arrived at the rescue underweight and heartworm positive. He was immediately started on nutritious pet food (thanks to your generous donations) and heartworm treatment.
The rescue is happy to report that Max is doing well and continues to gain weight. They shared that they wouldn’t be able to help dogs like Max without support and donations.

The rescue told us, “Max is giving back in his own way—he’s been a huge help to the team, supervising all the donation unloading and stacking. Of course, a few play breaks were needed, but that’s Max for you, always ready to have fun while getting things done!”

The spunky three-year-old is looking for a forever home. His caretakers shared that he LOVES people, even more than other dogs, and thinks he is a lap dog. He is always up for an adventure and is eager to find someone to love unconditionally. He just asks the same in return.
