Off-Track Thoroughbred Horses Recover from Painful Ulcers Thanks to Your Support – Blocklines

Off-Track Thoroughbred Horses Recover from Painful Ulcers Thanks to Your Support

While any horse can get ulcers, they are more prevalent in racehorses and off-track Thoroughbreds (OTTB).

Dr Bill Vandergrift states, “Approximately 80% of Thoroughbreds retiring from racing suffer from gastric ulcers ranging from mild to severe.”

The physical and emotional stress, high grain diets, stall confinement, and lack of grazing are all causes of ulcers.

Ulcers are painful and need to be treated with expensive medication to heal. Thanks to your generous donations, several OTTBs at the Secretariat Center – a non-profit organization that takes in retired race horses and finds them new homes – are getting the care they need.
