I was finally moving into my own apartment, and I couldn’t have been more excited to share it with a furry friend. My mom and I looked online and found a dog that we both loved. We drove an hour and a half to the shelter. When we got there, we told them which dog we were there to see, and they brought her out to us.

As I was trying to play with this dog and get her attention, it just didn’t feel right. I didn’t want to take in a dog that wasn’t supposed to be with me.

I played with several and was starting to think I wasn’t going to find my friend that day. Then my mom came up to me and said, “I found a little white one with spots.” I went with her to the cage and saw a scared little Jack Russell terrier. I had seen her when I first walked in and had ignored her. I thought she was a puppy, and I didn’t want a puppy.

This little dog was completely terrified and was so scared in the cage with the puppy she was with. I distracted the puppy while my mom got the little Jack Russell out. We took her outside, and her attitude changed completely.

She was so happy and wagging her tail and was licking my legs. The lady at the front desk said she had been there before and her previous owners couldn’t afford to get her back out of the shelter. Her collar was so old and dirty. The saddest part is she didn’t even have a name. I fell in love with my dog, my Sally.

I took Sally home and the rest is history. It’s been four months and she has become my best friend and I am hers. We do everything together. Sally didn’t have the best life before, so I want to do everything in my power to make sure she has the life she deserves. I don’t know what I would do without her.
